You will start your journey in Mexico City, the second biggest city in the world. Go through its historic city centre, which includes Zocalo, the largest baroque cathedral and the ruins of Tenochtitlan, a former Aztec centre. Also visit the state-of-the-art Museum of Anthropology and other Aztec ruins in Teotihuacan. A day spent in Taxco with true a colonial atmosphere will round up this experience.
The state of Oaxaca is next. Apart from discovering that the capital city is also named Oaxaca, you will visit Monte Alban, which is the burial place of Zapotec rulers, and the place of a well-preserved pelota playing field. Next is a day spent at Hierve el Agua and a stop where mezcal is produced.
Chiapas is a place with the charming capital city of San Cristobal de las Casas. Taking a boat into the Sumidero Canyon is something you will remember for years to come. After this, turn west to visit the Palenque ruins located in the middle of jungle and admire Aqua Azul and the Misol Ha falls along the way.
After stopping at the Mayan ruins of Uxmal and Chichen Itza, you will finally arrive in Tulum, which features one of the best beaches in the world. White sand, palms and clear azure waters give you the right place to unwind. If you want to swap for freshwater swimming, visit the local crystal-clear cenotes. Some six days spent here will help you relax and regain your energy before returning home.
