This archipelago of thousands of islands is one of the most diverse countries you can visit. Here you will discover all the important religions, monumental temples, majestic volcanoes, exotic nature and friendly smiling people. Is there anything else you could wish for?

Visit the historic city of Yogyakarta, which is currently the only sultanate in Indonesia. Explore the Hindu temple complex of Prambanan built in the ninth century. The next day, do the same at the monumental Buddhist complex of Borobudur, also built in the same century, which was rediscovered only in 1814.

Taking the train to Surabaya will offer you great views of the Javan countryside and volcanoes. After reaching second largest Indonesian city, continue on to Cemoro Lawang, a village on the outskirts of Mount Bromo volcano. You’ll need to get up early the next day but will be rewarded with great views of Mount Bromo at sunrise.

Next stop is Ubud in central Bali. This region on an otherwise very busy island will offer you easy treks or short scooter rides in charming countryside. Crossing rice terraces as you wish will be another treat, and don’t forget the local monkey forest full of cheeky yet adorable monkeys.

After a short flight to Lombok, explore this awesome island with great white sandy beaches you can zigzag on a rented scooter. Going further east will take you to Eastern Nusa Tengarra island. From here, you are only a short boat ride away to unique Rinca and the Komodo Islands, home of the robust Komodo dragons.
